We are pleased to introduce the all-new AquaRain CampSafe Gravity Filter System, which combines functionality, durability and portability in an entirely self-contained emergency water filtration system. The CampSafe consists of two high-density polypropylene 5-gallon buckets with the our patented three ceramic filtration elements used in our brushed stainless steel Model 303, all in a fully collapsible and compact nested configuration for ultimate portability, aiding in the availability of clean, safe water in a variety of locations and situations. The CampSafe exceeds EPA-level performance for gravity-activated water filtration systems.
Having what we consider to be the world’s premier gravity-activated water filtration system instantly on hand – whenever and wherever it may be needed – is only the first essential step in being prepared for any situation that that would cause us to seek the clean and safe drinking water.
The second and equally important step, is the collection of source water which is suitable for processing through the AquaRain System. Actually, this can be very challenging, as some readily available surface water sources could be dangerously contaminated, and potentially harmful just to gather. The collection and handling of the raw source water, in itself, could be dangerous to your health!
To help facilitate safe collection of potentially hazardous water sources during emergencies, we have developed the Emergency Water Collection Kit, available separately. When you purchase an Emergency Water Collection Kit, a third bucket and lid is included, purposely designed to aid in gathering water from questionable sources that may contain various environmental contaminants. Detailed instructions are included, along with the necessary items to help with the safe collection and pre-processing of raw water sources prior to the use of the AquaRain Natural Gravity-Activated Water Filtration System.

As water is second to air in importance regarding our health and well-being, having a means by which to safely collect raw water from questionable sources is essential.
Whenever clean and safe drinking water is required, especially during an emergency, the safe collection from raw water sources is often very challenging and even potentially dangerous. Detailed instructions are included, along with the necessary items to aid in the safe collection and pre-processing of raw water sources prior to the use of the AquaRain Natural Gravity-Activated Water Filtration System, the CampSafe Gravity Water System, or the previously mentioned ePail filtration system.
Prior to collecting the raw source water, put on a pair of the rubber gloves, a face mask and safety glasses. If there are any visible solids/particulate matter, use the furnished 1-Micron Pre-Filter Bag to strain the raw water into the 5-Gallon Bucket.
Having the AquaRain® Emergency Water Collection Kit close at hand will help to ensure that, regardless of whatever conditions may prevail at any given time, you have instant and ultimate portability for the purpose of safely gathering raw water from almost any source for subsequent natural gravity-activated filtration.
When collecting RAW UNTREATED WATER, look for the BEST AVAILABLE SOURCE: for example, a large creek or stream, rather than a cattle pond. The better, and visibly clearer, the source, the better and simpler the testing and subsequent filtration process should be.
When pre-treating raw, and quite possibly contaminated waters, varying amounts of granulated sterilizer will be required, depending on their absorption of the added chlorine. The correct method with unknown water is to begin with one micro measuring scoop per gallon of the granulated chlorine disinfectant, mix with the furnished stainless mixing spoon, let stand for 5 minutes, then test with one of the furnished chlorine test strips. Referring to the color chart on the side of the Test Strip Jar: If the resulting color of the test strip indicates less than .5 PPM, add another micro measuring scoop to the water in the bucket, let stand for an additional 5 minutes, and then test again with a fresh test strip. Repeat this process until the test strip color indicates between .5 PPM and 1 PPM, then wait an additional 15 minutes to treat the contaminants in the water; NOTE: If the test strip indicates 3PPM or more, you have overtreated the collected water and will need to dump it and start over. Using overtreated will severely shorten the life of the carbon inside the ceramic cartridges.
With the treated water in hand, you are now ready to process the water through the AquaRain Natural Gravity-Activated Water Filtration System, the CampSafe Gravity Filter System, or through the AquaRain ePail Filtration System.

A patented extrusion process produces a perfectly formed ceramic "tube" that has exacting characteristics. The wall dimensions and concentricity are tightly controlled, allowing an exact external measurement of the remaining wall thickness with a safety gauge.
The ceramic elements are fired in small computer-controlled kilns which allow complete and accurate control of the porosity of the finished product. The firing of the ceramic is the critical step in the process that determines the final performance. Our ceramic elements are by far the most consistent, high performance ceramic available. Extensive laboratory testing proves it.
Filter elements incorporate an end-of-life caliper gauge for measuring the remaining life of each element. When this highly accurate gauge can easily slip over the ceramic, the thickness of the ceramic wall has been reduced through cleaning to the point that we recommend replacing the element. The end-of-life measurement is possible only because of the unique patented extrusion process, which produces a consistent and measurable finished product. Laboratory testing has proven that the ceramic element will be safe to use, all the way to the element’s measured end-of-life.
The lever-action faucet used on the AquaRain Gravity Water Filter is very easy to use with a simple push of the lever to draw a cup of clean water. The lever may also be flipped up to lock it in the open position for high flow dispensing of larger quantities of water. An optional sight glass faucet allows an easy visual check of water available in the lower storage vessel.

The AquaRain® system filters water in a very natural way using gravity to gently draw water down through our "cultured" ceramic stone in much the same manner as nature processes ground water through the earth. The microfine pore structure of our ceramic media will remove dangerous organisms such as protozoan cysts (Cryptosporidium, Giardia lamblia) and microscopic bacteria (E. coli, Salmonella typhimurium, etc...). Enclosed within the hard ceramic shell we have incorporated a concentrated bed of Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC) that contains a self-sterilizing metallic silver. The high performance silvered GAC bed will adsorb various organic chemicals such as MTBE and pesticides, remove chlorine compounds including carcinogenic halogens, and improve the taste and odor of the water. To the benefit of good health, our system will also leave unchanged the naturally occurring electrolytes and minerals found in your water.
Ceramic water filters work in three ways. First, surface sieving, much like a screen door, does not allow larger particles to pass through the outer surface of the filter. Second, ceramic filters operate as a depth media, providing a twisting, tortuous path like a maze, trapping contaminants within the walls (usually in the top .005" below the surface). Third, surface charge or adhesion, whereby contaminants that are small enough to penetrate the walls of the ceramic may cling to the walls like opposite polarity magnets attract each other. This surface charge is often greater than the force of the water flow that might otherwise dislodge the contaminant. This is particularly true with gravity or siphon-fed ceramic applications.
Wall thickness is particularly important with regard to a ceramic’s performance as a depth media. The maze-like, tortuous path allows for filtration performance at an effective pore size that is much less than the actual median pore diameter of the diatomes from which the filter is made. As clogged filters are cleaned to restore flow, contaminants in the top .005" of surface material are removed. Gentle abrasive cleaning will gradually reduce wall thickness, making a reliable end-of-life indicator or gauge absolutely essential for easy determination of expended ceramics.
